"We live in a wired, globalized world in which communication and collaboration are possible 24/7" (p.8).
  • Technology shapes much of the world in which we live today.
  • The ability to use and adapt to ever-advancing technology will be requisite for professional success in the 21st century.
"Technology affects how students live and communicate and when, where, and how they learn" (p. 27).
  • Part of preparing our students to be productive 21st-century citizens involves leveraging this technology in educationally appropriate ways.
  • Since many young people already interact with the world using technology, it also requires that we adopt new models of teaching and learning that incorporate technology.
"Because Web 2.0 software is online and accessible to anyone with an internet connection and a browser, we have new avenues for communication and collaboration" (p. 46).
  • Increasingly abundant web resources are continuously expanding, improving, and democratizing the availablity of information.
